2018 COMPETITION FOR YOUNG PIANISTS 

Age Categories

Category 1: Contestants 12 years of age and under
Category 2: Contestants 13 to 15 years of age
Category 3: Contestants 16 to 18 years of age

Age categories will be determined by the age of the contestant on March 3, 2018. 

Category 1 and Category 2 will consist of two rounds:

  • Video Preliminary Round - to be submitted with application.

  • Final Round - to be held on Saturday March 3, 2018.
    Winners from both categories 1 and 2 will be announced at the conclusion of the finals on Saturday. Prizewinners will be required to perform at the Winners Concert on Sunday March 4th.

Category 3 will consist of three rounds:

  • Video Preliminary Round - to be submitted with application.

  • Semifinal Round - to be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

  • Final Round - to be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018.

Finalists will be announced at the conclusion of the semi-final round on Saturday. Winners will be announced immediately following the final round on Sunday, and the Prizewinners will be required to perform at the Winners Concert on Sunday, March 4. 

The competition will be held at the Levine School of Music -  Silver Spring Library 900 Wayne Avenue, 2nd Floor, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
The winners concert will be held at the Embassy of Poland. 

 

Application Materials

1. Completed application form

2. One letter of recommendation from current teacher

3. Recent unedited YouTube recording marked with the name of the applicant, category, and preliminary round repertoire. Preliminary round will consist of one piece from the applicants program and one piece of their choosing. Category 1 and 2 preliminary rounds should not exceed 15 minutes, and Category 3 should not exceed 20 minutes. 

4. Electronic copy of valid birth certificate, passport, or any other legal document confirming the age of the applicant.

5. Electronic copy of applicant's biography of up to 150 words including musical studies, institutions, participation in master classes, recent teachers, competitions entered, received awards suitable for publicity and program for the winner’s recital. 

6. Digital high resolution photo of applicant. 

7. Non-refundable application fee of $110. 

8. Applications to be submitted no later than December 20, 2017.
