A three-day intensive program of masterclasses with leading Chopin experts for selected pianists up to 30 years of age. Six finalists will be chosen to perform in three masterclasses, one with each of the faculty artists. All masterclasses will be open to the public and streamed live. Participants will perform in a public recital on the final day of the academy.

Masterclasses will be held at Levine Music Silver Spring, 900 Wayne Avenue, 2nd Floor, Silver Spring MD 20910.
All classes are open to the general public.

Repertoire And Audition Requirements

Each applicant must submit an unedited YouTube recording of three separate works or sets of
works composed by Frederic Chopin, which he/she is planning to present at the masterclasses.
Each work or sets of works may not exceed 15 minutes. The selection jury will choose six
finalists who will come to D.C. to take part in the Chopin Piano Academy. Repertoire cannot be changed once the selection jury makes their decision.

Accommodations And Meals

The six participants will be placed with host families. Lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as dinner on Saturday will be provided. Some transportation will be provided from staff and/or the host family. Practice rooms will be available for all participants.


The application fee is $130 payable through the academy website. If chosen, the applicant will only be responsible for their travel expenses to and from Washington D.C.

Application Instructions

  1. A completed application form.

  2. One letter of recommendation from your current teacher.

  3. A recent unedited YouTube recording marked with the applicants repertoire.

  4. An electronic copy of valid birth certificate, passport, or any other legal document confirming the age of the applicant.

  5. A biography submitted in the application form of up to 300 words suitable for publicity and print in the program, including musical studies, institutions, participation in master classes, recent teachers, competitions entered, received awards.

  6. One digital high resolution photo of applicant.

  7. A non-refundable application fee of $130.

  8. Applications to be submitted no later than Monday January 14, 2019 at 11:59PM.
